5 out of 5 stars Works fine. Better then expected   April 23, 2007

I've been using this router for about 10 days now. In summary I've experienced absolutely no problems with it whatsoever. The wireless side of it (I've had no need to test the wired feature) works exactly as I'd wish a wireless router to work.

I'm connected to virgin media (old telewest) cable internet. My main clients are a Linux laptop and my Nintendo Wii. The laptop also has Win XP home edition but that's hardly ever used (came pre-installed from manufacturer)

After removing the router from the packaging I plugged it into the mains and plugged the Ethernet cable into the back of it (with cable you also have to unplug the modem from the mains and plug it back in after 30 seconds or so to recognise the new hardware it's connected to). I then booted my laptop into Linux (Ubuntu Edgy). Network Manager found the router and connected to it first time. Fired up firefox and navigated to 162.168.2.1 and configured the router's security, ESSID etc. Network Manager then tried to reconnect by asking me for my WPA key, I typed it in and was (almost) instantly connected, securely this time.

I then went to my Nintendo Wii, searched for wireless networks, It picked up this router, I typed in the WPA password and it connected straight away. Internet, Wii Shop, news, weather all works fine.

The following day I decided to try out WinXP. Logged in, searched for available networks. Found the router, typed in the password and connected straight away.

Fact is that for the last 10 days this router has remained permanently switched on. I have connected with the laptop and wii each time I have tried and never dropped a connection once. I've never once reset the router or switched it off.

The signal strength was stronger then I'd expected. From the furthest point in my house away from the router I get a consistent signal strength of 60%-65% with no drop-out whatsoever.

I am extremely please with this router as it has exceeded my expectations. And both the instruction leaflet and installation CD remain unused in the box. I've not even seen the installation CD.

5 out of 5 stars Good range. Easy to set up.   June 29, 2003

Use this box if you have a broadband cable connection (such as NTL broadband).

With the new 54g, the range is good. My box is on the ground floor (next to my cable set top box) and I wirelessly connect two floors up with a 'good' to 'very good' signal strength.

If you are an NTL customer you will need to set this box up using the Advanced Web interface as the MAC settings need to be cloned.

set up in 20 seconds or so... great no problems put in the eithernet cable from virgin modem then attached eithernet cable to laptop, worked straight away. wireless took about a minute (as you need to set a security key) just enter that in the laptop and you can access the internet anywhere in the house and in the garden.

can't understand how it took some reviewers 6 hours to set up??

great!!

I didn't have a clue about WPA/WEP. I didn't even know that if you have cable broadband that you have to use a different type of wireless router (as opposed to BT broadband). I was with Virgin Media for broadband and bought the Belkin wireless G Router about 6 months ago. I bought a different one initially (not meant for cable broadband) and got pretty stressed when it failed to connect. Simple to set up following instructions on the CD rom. Took me about 20mins straight out of the box to set up and get a signal on my laptop. If you get the installation wrong just do the hard reset by pushing a small button at the back with a straightened wire paper clip. I also bought a netgear Wifi receiver and it was easy to connect to my now aging PC, picked up the wireless signal straightaway. I will be selling my Belkin wireless G router as moved house recently to a non cable area. This is a good, simple, no nonsense cable wifi router.
