I've had this hub for 2 years and have had no problems with it. I make use of the external power supply, because two of my drives are portables and need to draw power from the hub. I've had up to 4 drives and a scanner connected at once with no issues. One might ask why use a hub, why not daisy-chain the devices? When daisy-chaining, all the devices need to be turned on all the time. Turn off a device and everything past that point in the chain is disconnected. Having a hub allows me to turn on only those drives I need at the moment, in any order I choose, which is very convenient.

I've just bought this from Amazon. It is working very well, allowing me to use multiple firewire devices on my Mac at the same time. No more plugging and unplugging for me! Wish I'd had this a long time ago.

Open the box, plug the hub into a spare FireWire port on your PC and you're away. It took longer to open the box than to get the hub working.

I boutht this to carry my several firewire devices to the new Mac Pro with fw 800 only. I had read one or two reviews which were not that happy with the hub. I found it fine. Pluged it in and it worked. Still working. it's very small, doesn't have much of a personality but that's what you want.
