Don't know what all the complaints are about November 9, 2008 D. Wan 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I can't understand why people are so negative about this bit of kit.
My personal opinion is this is an excellent bit of kit and although larger than my existing 4 port USB hub, it stacks neatly with my Iomega MiniMax HD so it's not taking up yet another bit of desktop space. I use a MacBook so I don't have any issues with the short cables, but TBH I've got so many spare cables cluttering up my cupboard it's no problem to find a longer cable to plug this in.
Was surprised to see no power adapter in the box and to learn that the unit is obviously powered via Firewire. Fine if you are going to connect up to a machine with Firewire, but with new Macbooks having dropped Firewire 400 this needs to be considered. Despite this I think it is an excellent idea as it saves having to dig around under the desk to plug in yet another power brick.
Does what it says on the tin! March 13, 2010 Electro Geek A very handy Hub that sits neatly under the Mac Mini offering BOTH FireWire and USB. It offers useful front ports for both formats which would have been improved if there was an extra front USB but the omission is not the end of the world. What is excellent is the lack of a power supply as it draws power from the FireWire cable that has a guaranteed (unlike USB) power feed which is great for those 'high-drain' USB devices. It is important to note that this is not only compatible with just Mac Minis but ANY computer with a Firewire and USB interface (If no firewire then it would be non-powered and share the current across all attached devices). In all a very useful and reliable device.
Note: the hub ships with two very short USB and FireWire cables designed to plug into the Mac Mini without leaving excess cabling which is genius. If using with a different PC just substitute with longer cables instead!
Excellent Product. Works a Charm A++++++ October 1, 2008 Mohammed S. Abdul Razick (Swidnon, UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I Don't Know what some reviews say about the product being not right for a new Mac Mini, the cables being too small and stuff, but I use a Brand New Mac Mini and I had no problems getting it connected. Snugly fits under the Mini and u hardly see it and also is the best thing to save space and get the job done Mac Style. Very Fast Delivery too. The company says it will be with u in a week but i got it in 2 days. Highly Recommend...
After plugging my mac to this USB Adapter now i have 4 usb spaces extra and 3 spaces on firewire, mind that i use a 20" MAc Screen too, but irrespective of that it still would give u easy access to the 1 usb and 1 firewire ports in the front of the USB Adapter and if u plug all ur usb devices to the back of the Adopter then it gives easy access to the ports at the back of the Mini itself. Let the adopter do the hard work for a change and save the USB Spaces on the Mini for some other use which i'd say it a fantastic result at the end of the day... Keep it up guys...

I am sorry but I just don't recognize the problem the other reviewer had I found the cables entirely adequate for the job in hand. This product is great for adding connectivity to a mac mini as ,certainly for the early ones like mine, this is a weakness.
One thing that is missing from the product overview but is in the instructions in the box is that if your mac mini is running USB 1.1 ports the extension ports will be limited to that too. The USB ports are soldered to the mother board on the mac mini so you cannot upgrade them to USB 2!
Belkin Hub January 21, 2010 MacTidy (UK) I had to buy a different cable for the firewire to work with the newer mac mini. Other than that it seems fine.
